Dr. Hong Ni

About Me

Hong Ni is a professor in the Department of Psychology at the California State University, Fresno. Currently, she is the coordinator of the School Psychology Graduate program in the Department. She has taught courses of multicultural psychology, school-based behavioral consultation and cognitive behavioral therapy and solution-focused therapy for over 15 years. She also has supervised close to 200 hundred school psychology students and cases. Before coming to the U.S., she was an assistant professor of sociology at Nanjing University, China. Practicing as a school psychologist in Grant Wood Area Education Agency, Iowa provided her with insights into schooling and student well-being. Driven by her passion for serving all students and promoting school psychological services in China, Dr. Ni’s teaching, research, and service center on systems level impact. Her research interests include resilience promotion in schools, roles of Chinese mental health teachers, cultural adaptation of multi-tiered systems of support, and systematic review research regarding culturally diverse students and evidence-based intervention. Dr. Ni participated in founding the Association of Chinese Helping Professionals and Psychologists—International (ACHPPI) and served on the board for over 10 years. She initiated the School Psychology Series Online Forum for ACHPPI, which has had 12 meetings. With her involvement in the Bilingual Consortium of School Psychology Educators in CA, Fresno State School Psychology Graduate Program is becoming one of the first bilingual school psychology programs in California. Recently, Dr. Ni  led a team to develop a database for Chinese American youth mental health.
